SHREDZ says on its website it provides the best nutritional supplements and fitness information for “millions of followers in over 100 countries.” They do that through online coaching and support, customized meal and workout plans, and lots of SHREDZ supplements. Yes, this requires quite a bit of supplementation.
SHREDZ separates its products and programs by gender; SHREDZ for Her offers essentially the same vitamin, mineral and plant-based ingredients and compounds—albeit in a very few cases, in varying amounts.
With warehouses across the globe, SHREDZ fat burners are everywhere. Two million followers on Instagram, 1.3 million on Facebook and more than 10,000 on Twitter, not to mention their popular YouTube videos and more; they’re huge in the bodybuilding community.
But shredding fat is also a goal. One of the most popular products in the SHREDZ for Her line is the 30-day Quick Weight Loss Kit, with supplements for fat burning, body toning, and detox, for $379 (discounted to $175 as of 10 July 2017).
You’re supposed to end up sexy and lean. Let’s see if that’s true.
Before we get to the supplements—which are the cornerstone of every SHREDZ program—a big seller is the $214 (currently discounted to $79) Four-week Personal Weight Loss Program, which includes meal and workout plans, online coaching and dietary support, and plastic food containers. There are no supplements included in this kit. The sales pitch for it is thus:
You’ve tried countless diets. They seem simple enough. You drop calories impossibly low, see a quick weight loss only to put back on MORE weight than when you started. Well those days of quick fixes are over. It’s time to put down the yo-yo diets and quit playing around. Today, you are 30 days away from SUCCESS!
The SHREDZ Alpha Female Stack—which contains the supplements from the 30-Day Quick Weight Loss Kit without the rest of the bundle—retails for $180 (currently $120).
And then the Mega Stack Weight Loss bundle, also known as the 4-Week SHREDZ Program, retails for $809 (currently $300). This package is a combination of supplements Burner Max, Toner, and Detox, plus BCAA and protein powder, custom workout and diet plans, and e-books. SHREDZ says this all-inclusive diet, training, and supplement stack “is proven to effectively help you reach your fitness goal faster.” Again, the pledge is you’ll burn fat, lose weight, have more energy and will help tone your body. There’s a number of different options for women looking to lose weight and/or tone their bodies. But again, it’s all about the supplements.
Taking a closer look at the supplement claims, let’s start with the SHREDZ Burner Max Made For Women, which the company says is
“a premier thermogenic supplement with clinically-tested ingredients designed to help you lose 2 pounds a week for 10 consecutive weeks. … In SHREDZ Burner MAX are ingredients that are clinically shown to promote Weight Loss.”
The list of ingredients includes Advantra-Z Citrus Aurantium, which is bitter orange. We’ll look at other ingredients shortly.
The Toner supplement is the “best creatine product available,” SHREDZ says. Specifically made for women, SHREDZ claims it’s a “woman’s dream product.” They claim this supplement “helps keep and accentuate a woman’s natural curves while giving the energy to burn fat and get stronger.”
The Detox supplement is a “cleansing vitamin designed to support a woman’s body and boost her health and wellbeing. When you work out, you create toxins that get stored in your body,” SHREDZ says. “SHREDZ Detox helps get rid of those toxins to have your body feeling its best.”
We’re going to talk more about detoxers in a minute. But back to SHREDZ Claims.
The Pre-Workout supplement jump-starts the body with “a non-proprietary blend, designed to enhance workout capacity and fuel your workouts.” Actually, it’s mostly caffeine and cocoa among other ingredients. It promises to energize, boost performance and enhance strength.
The SHREDZ BCAA+GLUTAMINE is made up of branch chain amino acids and glutamine to improve performance and keep you working out longer.
Don’t reach for a sports drink that is packed with loads of sugar and a bunch of calories. Put this delicious, naturally flavored powder in your water bottle to refuel you with branch chain amino acid and glutamine to get the most out of your workout. With two flavors, you can also ditch sodas and sugary drinks from your daily habits by replacing them with this great-tasting supplement to reduce your glucose intake and make sure your diet doesn’t get knocked off track anymore.
The Thermogenic Protein powders are
“a delicious 2-in-1 product that helps strengthen your muscles while allowing you to burn calories all day long – yes, at the same time! … With a selection of flavors so tasty you’ll think Grandma made it…”
Wow, that’s a pretty serious claim! Aside from 20 grams of whey protein per serving, these powder supplements are essentially green tea extract, caffeine and ketones with Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), like the omega oil you get from fish oils (or better yet, broiled salmon). back to menu ↑
First, in the Burner Max supplement:
- With the primary ingredient in Burner Max, SHREDZ may be onto something. CQT-300 (Cissus quadrangularis extract) is a very common herb, used as a medicinal in Southeast Asia and in Africa to treat and or prevent a laundry list of ailments. For the purposes of this review, WebMD does that “developing research” suggests CQR-300 “may reduce weight in obese and overweight people.” The side effects are the usual gastro maladies and headache, but those may be minute risks compared to the potential reward. More research is needed, but it looks promising.
- Bitter orange (Citrus aurantium) isn’t nearly the magic pill marketers would have you believe it is, and there can be some nasty side effects. For the most part, though, the science is in the very preliminary stages, so take claims with a large grain of salt.
- African mango (Irvingia gabonensis) is a West African tree; its seed’s primary ingredient is called IGOB-131. It may help break down fat or because of the high fiber content, attack cholesterol, but WebMD says there’s insufficient evidence to back that up.
- Yohimbe bark (Pausinystalia yohimbe) is another of those “magic pill” types without much real research to back up the claims.
In the Toner supplement:
- Creatine Magnapower® (magnesium creatine chelate) has been shown to increase muscle strength to a degree.
- Capsimax® (Capsicum annuum fruit extract) is the extract from hot peppers used primarily in the beauty industry from cosmetics to shampoos. Good luck getting through this International Journal of Toxicology meta-study report, but basically C. annuum extract is safe, when used topically or orally in small and not regular doses, for use in beauty products and in treating conditions including digestive problems and blood circulation but also as a topical pain reliever. Its use in SHREDZ supplements is based on the thermogenic effect of hot pepper in our bodies—thermogenesis equals weight loss, or at least that’s what’s claimed by any and all weight loss supplements that kick-start the metabolism through heat.
Caffeine, cacao, green tea, the usual amino acids and anti-inflammatory compounds, tons of vitamins and minerals, and antioxidants are all found in SHREDZ products.
The Science (or Lack Thereof) Behind SHREDZ
Before we tackle anything else, there’s one thing to say about the Detox supplement, and detoxers in general.
Exercise actually helps our incredibly efficient body to detoxify itself. Aside from the obvious bowel movements and urination, the lungs filter particles, the liver and kidneys remove myriad toxins, the skin sweats the bad stuff out—even the blood cleans itself. But that requires exercise in order to work at peak efficiency. In particular:
Lymph is a clear fluid that flows through the body containing white blood cells. The lymph system is made up of nodes, which act as filters, and capillaries. The lymph collects unwanted “debris” in the body such as fats, bacteria and other harmful materials and filters them through the lymph nodes. The lymph system is similar to the circulatory system except there is no “pump” to help the lymph circulate through the body. The lymph system relies solely on the body’s movements for circulation. (emphasis added)
There’s no shortage of science to back this up; it’s basic Anatomy 101. Exercising increases breathing and heart rate; the oxygen produced runs through your blood to your brain, muscles and organs. And as the heart—which is a muscle, after all—grows stronger and healthier, so too are your lungs producing and getting rid of carbon dioxide. Our bodies are designed to be self-cleaning. The only help it needs is clean living, good nutrition, lots of clean water and plenty of exercise. Boom.
There are no SHREDZ-focused scientific studies of its supplements as a whole, or at least I could not find any. But, there’s plenty of concern in the nutrition sciences community about the claims. And the big problem with SHREDZ supplements are the side effects and warnings.
Starting with side effects like bad headaches, dizziness, nausea, gas, vomiting, chest tightness, heartburn, elevated blood pressure and on and on.
There’s lots of caffeine in Burner Max, and the label warns people not to consume anything with caffeine because of the dose, nor to exceed the recommended dose. Plus, there’s a list of very common medications, like aspirin, that can have adverse interactions. You also should not use SHREDZ if you have essentially any medical condition whatsoever. You must read the fine print. back to menu ↑
Word on the Street about SHREDZ
There was a controversy in 2016—the Shredz scam—where some of the company’s star endorsers were caught Photoshopping images, rigging challenges, and having non-professionals create meal and exercise plans. It was quite the scandal in the gym rat community. These episodes wouldn’t seem to instill confidence in the product line.
However, like I said at the top, if social media followers are any indication and can be trusted, SHREDZ is incredibly popular with millions of followers.
That said, on Amazon.com eight hundred reviewers gave the Burner supplement a “meh” rating of 3.3 stars; not great but not bad. Specifically the burner for women; reviewers either loved it or found it worthless—not a lot of in between.
“Crystalina” (2016, 5 stars) says “SHREDZ gives me life.” Wow.
I’m on my second bottle of Shredz for Her. What keeps me coming back is that this is the ONLY product that I have in my arsenal right now, that gives me a natural boost of energy. Honestly, I took two pills this morning because I really didn’t have the energy to get out of bed and start my day. I took them and I was naturally energized and my mood was more optimistic. When I use it before a workout I feel like working harder, lifting more, and pressing forward with having the best workout. I love Shredz! I’m not weighing myself so I can’t attest to what it’s done for weight loss, but just from the naturally energy lifting qualities it has, I will continue to buy this product.
This review is typical of the five-star reviews, which say it’s great for energy and for working out. This product is for people who are into exercise. Period. If working out is not your thing, it’s not for you.
Like this “Amazon Customer” (2016, 1 star) who says it “doesn’t work at all.”
My advice? Eat healthier food/exercise properly do NOT rely on ANY diet pills or whatever it called. I’ve lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks WITHOUT it. You will need a personal trainer or be a fitness/gym junkie along with diet pills to achieve their goal by building more muscles/less fat. Not for women who want to lose weight the natural/healthier way.

The Bottom Line: Is SHREDZ Worth a Try?
Definitely not. Insufficient data on some of the supplements makes this a no-go for me as a weight-loss program for overweight women. It might be a friend for bodybuilders or elite athletes or gym rats, but for me, a 59-year-old carrying an extra 20 pounds, nah. Plus, it’s very expensive. And then there’s the whole scam with Photoshopping. Skip it.
