Prüvit [1]—or to be more precise, health expert Ben Greenfield—believes carbs are killing us. [2]
“We’re operating in a high carb world where food is abundant and it is destroying our brains and bodies,” Greenfield says in his lengthy but chock-a-block blog of information about a better body through ketosis—and, ultimately, his supplements. Supplements that claim will not only help you shed pounds, but build a better body by rewiring your metabolism—or “biohacking”—to give you more energy, strength, and focus while you lose weight and sleep better. Not to mention you’ll be in an amazing mood.
It’s a lot of claim.
Prüvit supplements are supposed to add ketones to your blood—if you’ve ever been on a low-to-virtually-no carb diet, you’ve heard of ketosis [3]—which triggers weight loss. Greenfield calls it a kind of “body-hacking.”
What Prüvit Is and How Does It Work?
Prüvit, a play on the words prove and it, cites research that includes articles, studies, and clinical trials, but quickly adds that it’s not responsible for inaccuracies in the data. Not the first in the ketosis or ketone-diet zone by a long shot, nonetheless Prüvit says it’s tackled the “supplement world by creating the world’s first consumer-based ketone supplement drink, KETO//OS®.” [4]
Described as a beverage blend of “advanced macro nutritionals (that) promotes optimized cellular regeneration, energy and longevity,” it comes in flavors like Maui-Punch, Chocolate Swirl and Orange Dream that range from $75 to $130 for 20 servings. Another product, KETO/KREME, “derived from the heart of the coconut, is one of the healthiest natural fats known to the world. Our bodies convert fat into energy quickly giving you a powerful mental boost—we call it brain fuel,” Prüvit says. This is $75 for 20 servings.
The primary ingredient is Beta-hydroxybutyrate, which “puts ketones in your blood.” Mayo Clinic medical laboratory scientists describe beta hydroxybutyrate as being the greatest of the three ketones found in the blood and is present during “carbohydrate deprivation.” [5] In theory, Prüvit says, “even those who don’t change a thing, will still experience the benefits. However, it is encouraged that you slowly begin to follow a lower carbohydrate diet.”
So unless you’re already close to an acceptable and healthy weight with normal to or near-to-normal body fat, adding the supplement alone won’t cut it. In other words, you cannot take this supplement and then continue Netflix/pizza and expect any benefit. You’d have to do a low-carb diet.
About low-carb diets: It’s not news that seriously cutting or eliminating sugars and other bad white stuff—simple carbohydrates found in processed and refined sugars—can mean dramatic weight loss, though it’s a rough ride for carb-loving people (most of us!). Anyone who’s been on Atkins knows this to be true. The problem is sticking with it.
When you eliminate carbs dramatically your body goes into ketosis, where there’s not enough glucose for fuel so your fat is burned and ketones are built up. For some there are side effects, like fatigue and headaches, and for others none. So if you move that bod at all fat starts to melt away, beginning with belly fat, and hunger pains begin to fade. So if you adhere strictly, a very-low carb diet will reduce blood sugar, send your HDL—the good kind of cholesterol—up, send triglycerides down, and kick-start your metabolism; all of which means you’re at lower risk for heart disease. But Prüvit thinks you should go a step further.
back to menu ↑Prüvit N8tive Zone [6]
Prüvit’s N8tive Zone regimen: Two Keto-OS supplements daily, first in the morning, second in the afternoon. Drink ½ to 1 ounce water per pound of body weight (minimum of 80 ounces, or 2.5 quarts)—which, depending on your weight, could be a lot! Stop eating wheat, grains, and refined sugar, and increase healthy fats.
Limit carbs to 100g a day maximum (that’s not net carbs, folks, like Atkins—that’s carbs, period), eat your last meal before 8 p.m., and move your body every day.
Sounds like every other low-carb diet, and the tried-and-true for long-term weight loss: exercise more, skip the processed, refined, preserved or junk food, and drink lots of water. The only difference I can see is the supplements.
back to menu ↑Does Prüvit Ketone Work?
“Scientifically prüven,” the website claims. Indeed, Prüvit encourages people to self-test their ketone levels using strips found at pharmacies (at Wal-Mart a box of 50 ReliOn Ketone strips runs about $7). [7] And with a team of “specialists” listed on its website—including naturopaths, a University of South Florida PhD and researcher in molecular pharmacology and physiology, an Olympic weightlifter, pro athletes, and fitness experts—the backup for the products and the science around ketosis seems pretty solid.
But the supplement alone will not achieve significant weight loss without the implementation of a low-carb diet. And while some read that to mean high-fat, Prüvit’s products come in to save the day:
“Supplementing with exogenous ketones allows you to experience deep ketosis and elevated blood ketone levels, without having to eat copious amounts of fats, follow an excessively carbohydrate restrictive ketogenic diet, or do a ton of fasting which, as you learned earlier, is often difficult or even damaging to adhere to.” [8]
We have come full circle. What have we learned? Prüvit says if you have a lot of weight to lose—in particular belly fat—begin a low-carb diet, but if you want to steer clear of fats found in some of the proteins you’re supposed to eat, you should reach for Prüvit’s supplements.
And beyond the weight loss, Prüvit claims its approach, including support from its “community,” all combined with low-carb nutrition, helps to get people “feeling great and looking amazing.” There are scores of video testimonials on the site, and it says it’s sold 7 million supplements in its first 2 months of business.
But off-site reviewers are torn. Of 127 reviews on Amazon, Prüvit earned 2.9 out of 5 stars. To be honest, that number seems about the norm for diet and weight-loss programs and supplements across the board: essentially, “Meh.” Some 40% of reviewers panned it as tasting bad and being ineffective: “Call a dentist my teeth want to fall out; it’s too sweet,” or “Ketosis in one hour?” [9]
Prüvit’s site states,
“Our vision is to help people discover how to upgrade your body and mind using the proven science of biohacking and ketones. … We are creating a community of people who care as much about personal performance as you do. By giving expert guidance so that people can walk the path of peak performance and innovation through mind, body and spirit, we can help one become nearly superhuman as they begin to perform at their own optimum level.” [10]
So, to attract customers, Prüvit—not unlike scores of other programs—seems to be focused on a culture or lifestyle, with its supplements as the alleged panacea.

Table Explanation
Based on our research people frequently try to compare Prüvit to other brands. Often the brands and their products are different in many ways which makes it hard to compare apples-to-oranges. This is our attempt to compare below 8 and pick the winner. This is not necessarily to say that we recommend any of the winners, instead this is simply author’s opinion when asked to compare each. Please take this information with the grain of salt and do your own research. If making dietary changes we recommend consulting with your medical doctor.

Thrive Patch vs Prüvit Ketones
In the Thrive Patch vs Prüvit Ketones tug-of-war, though I am not convinced the Prüvit Ketones are ultimately effective, I think at least some of the science might be solid, at least the part about beta-hydroxybutyrate (which scientists say is one of the three ketones in the blood present during carb deprivation). In other words, when you’re on a low-carb diet, beta-hydroxybutyrate is the big kahuna of ketones and that’s what Prüvit adds to its drinks and supplements. Some reviewers are skeptics: ketosis in an hour? Prüvit says yes. I don’t know if this is true or not. What I do know is that there’s better science here, albeit not proof of efficacy, than we have found with Thrive Patch. First, Thrive Patch is made by Le-Vel (which has more than 140 Better Business Bureau consumer complaints) and is a multi-level-marketing (pyramid scheme, plain and simple) nutrition business. As far as I am concerned, despite whatever claims it makes, distributors are pushing and doing the hard sell. People get roped in either as a purchaser or as fellow distributors. Along with unproven and possibly dubious ingredients like garcinia cambogia, forslean and coffee bean extract. Of the latter, the researchers that did a study touting its benefits retracted their work. Hello: red flag! Not a Prüvit fan because I am not sure they have in fact proved it, but I’d take Prüvit Ketones over shady Thrive any day.
Beachbody vs Prüvit Ketones
Remember the 21 Day Fix? That’s Beachbody. But it’s also Shakeology, and much more. Beachbody is big and a clearinghouse for fitness, weight loss, cleansing, and performance programs and supplements. Pitting Prüvit Ketones against Beachbody is like comparing a full shopping cart against the shopping center. And with a laser focus on moving the body, this is easy. Beachbody because there’s so much to choose from.
Shakeology vs Prüvit Ketones
As the aforementioned Beachbody is home for Shakeology, this is an easy transition. So in the contest between Prüvit Ketones and Shakeology who takes the prize? They’re very different products and programs: Prüvit supplements and Shakeology replaces. Prüvitketones are added and Shakeology shakes are swapped out for meals. With Shakeology, one or two regular daily meals are skipped and fairly nutritious shakes step in. Regular exercise and eating whole foods is still recommended for results because if you aren’t going all the way, meal replacement shakes are not only possibly useless but, as some have reported, a couple pounds can definitely be gained. Prüvit says if you change nothing in your life, diet or exercise, you’ll still reap benefits. I had trouble nailing down any user reviews confirming that, so whether it’s true or not is unclear. However, Prüvit does follow up by encouraging users to start, albeit slowly, to incorporate a lower carbohydrate diet; to stop eating wheat, grains and refined sugars while increasing their intake of healthy fats. So which is it? Because if you’re adding ketones, why would you need to put your body into ketosis by what you eat, or are not eating? Couldn’t you just do a low carb and skip the ketones? See? Shakeology, folks.
AdvoCare vs Prüvit Ketones
It’s difficult for me to perhaps not appear biased when comparing diets in which one is a product or program that’s just another multi-level-marketing (MLM) scheme. So in the AdvoCare vs Prüvit Ketones smackdown, Prüvit barely needs to raise its hand. I am not dubious necessarily of the science and though not totally convinced, it at least isn’t being forced down my throat by a friend on social media. Forcing dietary supplements like vitamins, minerals and nutrient blends that purport to promote health and wellness, sports nutrition, athletic performance enhancement and, primarily, weight management is not the way to do it. This includes the AdvoCare 24 Day Challenge and the AdvoCare 10-day cleanse as well. There’s some science, though insufficient still, that government health agencies have published positive notes about. There’s potential for weight loss with the AdvoCare proprietary blend, Lepticore, but mainly for people with metabolic syndrome. That’s pretty narrow a field. Regardless, it’s like so many other MLM so-called “nutritional supplements” companies. It’s next to impossible to find objective reviews without being sure if positive (or negative) comments come from the distributors, real customers, or disgruntled distributors. Doesn’t matter. It’s a no-go for me. And even though Prüvit Ketones may not be a panacea, there’s legit data and the company doesn’t hook people into selling its product for them. Prüvit Ketones slap-down.
Isagenix vs Prüvit Ketones
Everything I said about AdvoCare’s brand of doing business goes double for Isagenix. In a Isagenix vs Prüvit Ketones rumble, my money is on Prüvit Ketones and here’s why: I agree as Prüvit Ketones says, we are a world filled with carb-eaters, especially many in the developed world who subsist on processed, refined, and modified foods. Prüvit says all the sugary junk is ruining our minds and bodies. Maybe a bridge too far but maybe not. So if I agree that we need to avoid eating sugar (and fake sugar)-laden foods, I agree in principle and don’t necessarily think it should be done by adding supplements or ketones. That said, I’d take Prüvit any day over Isagenix for the same reason I am not a fan of most MLM dietary and nutritional supplement companies based on the model of sell, sell, sell. (To be fair, there’s an MLM who has a product that I stand by. Avon’s Skin-So-Soft helps keeps mosquitoes away. But so do the oils of peppermint, lemon balm, and citronella, all of which the bath oil smells like.) So besides being super pushy and cult-like (I don’t mean that in the worst possible sense), what I don’t get about Isagenix is its IsaLean shake, which is one of its most popular weight loss products. It contains sugars. Yes. Fructose. And enough of it to be used as like the third or fourth ingredient. (Although since there’s no regulation by the Food and Drug Administration, we don’t really know much about any dietary supplement ingredients, do we?) So it’s apples and oranges when pitting Isagenix against Prüvit Ketones. Wait. Which has more sugar, an apple or an orange? (For the record, oranges have 9 grams of natural sugar and apples have 10 grams.) Go orange! So, Prüvit Ketones, people.
Julian Bakery vs Prüvit Ketones
This is interesting because I had never really checked them out before, but in a clash between Julian Bakery vs Prüvit Ketones I’m already thinking I’m going with Julian Bakery because …
pegan. I’d never really heard of it before, though it makes sense. A Paleo Vegan. It doesn’t quite roll of the tongue though does it? I have not one thing against Julian Bakery. More power to you for selling Paleo, Keto, low carb, and Pegan foods including snacks, bars, and drinks. Julian Bakery loves all those diets and supports them all with its myriad of product lines. So it might be a good place to explore doing Keto and low carb while adding some Paleo and even the Pegan protein bars. Plus a line of natural stevia. (And, not-so-bueno, energy drinks, too.) But you’re not roped in. Pick and choose and match to your current diet. Or skip it. I am. But if I had to choose, I’d pick Julian Bakery over Prüvit Ketones because Julian has their own ketones and a bunch of other super-hip, faddy, trendy diet foodstuffs. I will say though that it is not cheap.
Plexus Slim vs Prüvit Ketones
My favorite line from a Prüvit Ketones review was simply: “Ketosis in an hour?” Right. Come on. And if it’s that simple, why aren’t we all doing it? I am not a cheerleader for the Pink Drink. At all. It’s expensive and you can do better getting prebiotics from food, but as a drink that may help with good gut health, I am not opposed. It depends on the person; what are you looking for? If it’s ketosis, to have your body burn fat for fuel, then cut way way back on the carbs. If it’s to balance out the good flora (yes, like pants) in your gut, eat the right combination of foods. Or, in the absence of actual whole foods, the drink pink might be a stand-in. Me? Ummm. Being forced to choose, I’ll do pink, so it’s Plexus Slim.
Trim Down Club vs Prüvit Ketones
No match. Nope. None. Fight’s over, go home. It’s over. Trim Down Club every day all day. Real, whole, true, healthy food you prepare, plenty of exercise and a few thousand friends to do it with you. All for less than you’ll pay for any of the above diets. Far less; think grande lattes with your friends.
