Reading Time: 5 minutes Prolessa Duo is a weight loss supplement manufactured and sold by the parent company Herbalife. Herbalife has been around since 1980 and it is a multi level marketing company that sells and distributes nutrition, diet, and wellness products. When looking into this diet product, it comes in the form of a powder and it markets itself to be a dual action hunger control powder made from linoleic acid and a blend of palm and oats. This Herbalife product comes in a 7-day formula for $28.05 or a 30-day formula for $106.85. When looking into their Better Business Bureau file, it has been opened for many years and they scored a rating of a B-. Company Contact Information 800 W Olympic Blvd #406 Los Angeles, CA 90015-1367 1-866-617-4273 [1] What does this drink mix offer that other supplementation drinks don’t, and how easy it is to purchase? You can only purchase this drink from a distributor, or from Amazon.com. The ingredient list is rather unique with palm and oats being on the forefront. You typically do not see these two items as weight loss ingredients, so more information on the science behind those ingredients will be below. The taste in your shake may change when you add Prolessa Duo, as well as the thickness, which might be a negative for some people more sensitive to consistency and taste.

Prolessa Duo Claims

The company claims that this powdery mix is best taken with their Formula 1 shake, and is meant to be taken one time per day in either the morning or the afternoon. It can however be used with other drinks of choice, but they are also trying to push a sale of Formula 1. All of their products are manufactured in a Herbalife facility, which they make a note of on their website. They quote from the site, “A blend of palm and oat oils helps to reduce calorie intake and provide a feeling of fullness. Conjugated linoleic acid helps decrease body fat, Stimulant-free.” [2] Herbalife claims the product is made with clinically tested ingredients, but it does not give anymore insight to those clinical trials. The entire basis behind this diet powder mix is to help control hunger and cravings that come along with. They say it also has the power to reduce fat in the body, which in turn will cause weight to come off and that is when you will start to see the losses. Overall, its main claim to fame is the effect of feeling more full for longer periods of time, which in turn will help you lose weight. According to the company, “Most of the Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mixes, tablets, capsules and teas have an expiration of two years from the date of manufacture as long as they are stored under proper conditions: unopened, in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight with cap tightly sealed.” For their refund process if you purchase their products from a Herbalife distributor you will be required to provide your proof of purchase, unused or used product, or the product label. They claim, “If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with any Herbalife® product purchased directly from Herbalife or an Herbalife Independent Distributor, you may return it within 30 days from receipt for a full refund or product exchange. Refunds and exchanges may be obtained by calling Herbalife at 866-866-4744, or by contacting your Herbalife Independent Distributor.”

The Science Behind Prolessa Duo

On the website, they claim that multiple studies have been done regarding Prolessa Duo’s effectiveness and its consistency. They do not provide those studies on the website for their customers to take a look at, so what is the deal with their unique set of ingredients claiming to help stave hunger away? The first ingredient is Safflower oil, and it has been noted to be high in Omega-6 acids, which are pro-inflammatory. According to the Cleveland Clinic Wellness, Safflower oil is an appetite suppressor, and it also has the power to decrease cholesterol levels in the body as well. They say as a warning, “Flower-derived safflower oil is high in omega-6 fatty acids, which are pro-inflammatory. Diets high in omega-6s are associated with an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and even some cancers.” [3] In another study done by NCBI, there were subjects who went through a 36-week study in which they were seeing if the Safflower oil would significantly reduce their body mass index or adipose mass. There were 35 women who completed this study, and the results were average over the period of time. They found that supplementation with both SAF and CLA had completely different effects over a long period of time regarding BMI, lean tissue mass, and trunk and adipose mass with obese postmenopausal women. All of these women also had type 2 diabetes, and the study found that upon taking these oils, it might just be beneficial in the long run for total weight loss and glycemic control. [4] Regarding Palm Oil, there is also information about it working in the body to reduce weight loss because it is considered an MCT, which is also known to be Medium Chain triacylglycerol. MCT’s are easily oxidized in the body, which means they are not likely to store fat which is why they are a good oil for weight loss. There have been multiple studies about the effectiveness of these oils in relation to weight loss that is seen after a period of time. The study done by NCBI wanted to prove that the MCT oils were more effective than olive oil regarding overall weight loss in the subjects completing the study. According to NCBI, there were 31 people who completed the program and their results showed that the people who consumed MCT oils like Palm oil had better results than those people who consumed olive oil. The conclusion was, “Consumption of MCT oil as part of a weight-loss plan improves weight loss compared with olive oil and can thus be successfully included in a weight-loss diet.” [5] There was not any word about oat oil in any of the studies when looking into this specific ingredient.

Word On The Street About Prolessa Duo

When looking directly into Herbalife Prolessa Duo reviews, and Prolessa duo 7 day results there were many different voices speaking out. It was a surprising mix of positive to negative reviews, with it almost being half and half. Many people commented on the bad taste of the product when they completed their Prolessa duo review. This alone is enough to be a deal breaker, and the other negative comment was how expensive this product is to purchase. Many of the positive reviews simply said they were happy with it but wished it was cheaper. Roy B said,

“The powder did not work to burn off any fat for my wife. It was a total waste of money! I will be asking for money back guarantee!”

Jordy said,

“This stuff taste like paint! I purchased it because a friend of mine said this would help me lose my extra 30 pounds quickly. I thought it would be good, but when I received it I was like what? The size bottle is so small for the high price. I could not get over the taste, I added it to my reg vanilla protein powder thinking it would minimize the horrible taste, and guess what it did not! I literally felt like I was drinking paint each time I used it.”

Laura said,

“Ugh this tasted awful. The powder wouldn’t mix and made everything I tried to mix it with taste terrible…I suffered through the whole thing and never noticed a difference. Just gross.” [6]

The Bottom Line- Is Prolessa Duo Worth a Try?

Depends. It really depends on your budget and your taste pallet with this product, as to whether or not it will be a good spend of money for you or not. A lot of people who purchased it did not speak about nasty side effects but they could not get over the bad taste it left in their mouths. There were no before and after stories regarding Prolessa Duo, which was unsettling and disappointing to say the least. The reviews were mediocre to say the least, and the price tag was extremely high to keep up with over a long period of time. The company Herbalife has a good track record with its customers, but the product Prolessa Duo has not been said to taste great or even work wonders for your waistline at the end of the day.
