What is Nutrisystem Lean 13
Nutrisystem Lean 13, in a nutshell, is a promotion from Nutrisystem. The 13? That’s how many pounds you could lose in your first month on the plan.
For those familiar to Nutrisystem it’s an upgraded version of Fast5.
And for those not familiar, here’s how Nutrisystem works. Nutrisystem is a home delivery diet that sends you calorie counted weight loss meals. They provide breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks a day, delivered to your home. That comes in the form of shakes, bars, snacks, and prepackaged meals. The products provide high levels of protein and fiber, but with zero trans-fat.
You choose a plan dependent on cost. There are three prices to choose from. Just under ten bucks, just over ten bucks, and twelve bucks. Paying slightly more will give you access to choose from more and better quality, meals such as their gourmet meals. So, you may as well just pick the best one for the minimal difference in price.
That’s it all your food shopping and cooking done. Just a little fruit to snack on perhaps and you’re done. Nutrisystem says it’s fine if you can’t or don’t want to exercise but you’ll boost your weight loss if you do.
A few things to mention about the meals. They are split into two categories, freeze-dried or gourmet. Freeze-dried? I can understand the need for army survival packs to have freeze-dried meals but I don’t know that it works here. UN-appetizingly you add water to your meal before eating! Worse still, in this category is Thick crust pizza and Tuna Salad!
In fact, even Nutrisystem admit that their gourmet meals are tastier. Nutrisystem has taken the bold approach of just freezing rather than freeze drying these meals! They say these dishes may take a little preparation but I’m okay with that.
In this category, you can choose from dishes including:
- Broccoli and Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast
- Chicken Parmesan
- Italian Sausage and Turkey Pepperoni Pizza
- Salisbury Steak with Mac and Cheese
- Chocolate Brownie Sundae
- Red Velvet Whoopie Pie
Science (Or Lack Of) and How Does Nutrisystem Lean 13 Work?
Nutrisystem sounds like a great plan. What I will say is you might not lose 13 pounds in your first month.
Here’s the science/math bit:
Every pound of body fat equates to 3,500 calories. So, it’s tough but you do need to under eat by 3,500 calories in order to lose one pound. And to lose 13 pounds, you need to under eat by 45,500 (13*3,500).
So, you would need to under eat by 45,500 in 30 days. Therefore, each day you will need to under eat by 1516 calories. Nutrisystem 13 delivers around 1,250 -1,500 calories. So, unless your body needs 2,750 to 3,000 calories per day you won’t under eat by the 1,500 calories per day needed to reach this goal.
If you currently weigh 200 pounds or less you will struggle to meet this level of weight loss since your body doesn’t need anywhere near 2,750 calories. But you can check out how much energy your body needs. And better calculate how much weight you will lose at this safe level of 1,250 – 1,500 calories per day.
back to menu ↑Bottom Line
It might be said that I dislike diet companies. That simply isn’t true. It’s just shocking the number of rogues and dangers there are for the dieter. However, I do really like Nutrisystem in principle.
This is an option that would be suitable for many busy people. There is a selection of meals and snacks all calorie counted for you. No crazy low calorie restrictions or stimulants. Just meals that should make dieting easy. There is also access to unlimited support from a counselor/dietician. This is a really great benefit for no extra cost and I strongly encourage you to take advantage of this perk.
All in all, a pretty good product for many people. I would definitely upgrade and avoid the dehydrated, add water to serve meals. I much prefer the inconvenience of putting a meal in a microwave.
So yeah, go ahead with this one guys. I don’t find it to be too expensive, either. While it is twelve bucks a day or so for your meals, everyone needs to eat! Three meals from any company would be around this mark or much more. If like the tagline suggests just need to lose around 13 pounds then for ease and not having to calorie count, ordering Nutrisystem 13 may very well be a very good option.
