We love meal delivery kits. They are a great choice for dieters and offer convenience in terms of meal preparation. They also offer an already nutritionally balanced program all calorie-counted. There is also evidence to suggest that diets are better adhered to more strictly and successfully when meals are pre-portioned.

With so many meal delivery kits to choose from it’s tough to pick the best. Many companies are marketed towards baby boomers while some companies aim to provide fresh ingredients to prepare family meals.

About Diet-to-Go

Diet-to-Go began life in 1991. At the time entrepreneur, Hilton Davis was one of the first diet meal mail-order products. They now prepare over 40,000 meals per week.

We think it’s important to enjoy what you eat when you diet. And Diet-to-Go’s has restaurant-grade food spread across four award-winning menus. With Diet-to-Go they promise “you can enjoy fully-prepared, great-tasting meals, all while losing weight.”

No calorie counting or meal planning required.

The meals are still made in Virginia and then packed and sent by FedEx. They come in plastic trays, ready to heat and eat. Meals are delivered in a five-week menu rotation but you can customize your plan and choose a variety of meals.

How It Works

Diet-to-Go has four different meal programs to choose from all of which are designed to provide 1200 calories for women and 1600 calories for men.

Balance: This is the no 1 choice which is a heart-healthy diet with carefully controlled levels of sodium, fat, and carbohydrates.

Diabetes-friendly: This menu is designed to help you lose weight, manage pre-diabetes, and prevent type-2 diabetes.

Keto Carb30: For those who want to follow a ketogenic diet this program offers a nutritious option with a 30 daily carbs limit.

Vegetarian: This is a vegetarian version of the Balance menu. Protein sources include dairy, eggs, beans and some soy.

Sample Menus

For the Balance plan, you might choose:

  • Breakfast: Breakfast pizza, Strawberry Banana Bar or Kale & Swiss Frittata.
  • Lunch: Chicken Pesto Salad, Mediterranean Tapas, or Tuscan Boats with Turkey
  • Dinner: Parmesan Spinach Stuffed Chicken, Shrimp with Spanish Style Rice or Macaroni and Cheese.

And for the Carb30 plan you might choose:

  • Breakfast: Pork Chop Breakfast, Cheese Omelet or Sausage Gravy and Biscuit.
  • Lunch: Baked Chicken with Goat’s Cheese, Old Fashioned Pot Roast or Chicken Fontina.
  • Dinner: Roasted Half of Chicken, Beef Tenderloin with Red Wine Sauce or Pork Chop Pomodoro.

When you place your order you will choose which plan, choose the female or male plan, choose to avoid seafood or not, choose 5 or 7 days, and 2 or 3 meals per day to customize your plan. So depending on what option you choose you can order 10, 14, 15, or 21 meals.

You can use the menu management feature to swap out meals and choose your favorite meals. You can also pause or end the plan whenever you like.

What to  Do

Heat and eat the meals. Make sure you don’t add a bread roll or any other sides and that’s it. You may be able to snack on fruit with other programs but not on the Carb30 plan.

If your goal is effective weight loss then make use of the time you save with using Diet-to-Go by teaming your diet program with a fitness program.

Repeat until you hit your goal weight. It’s that easy. If you enjoy the meals and the convenience of Diet-to-Go then you can continue with the plan very easily. For women, you could switch to the 1600 calorie plan and get larger portions. And you can add some snacks, side orders, and desserts to a weight maintenance plan.

The pricing varies depending on your plan and how many meals you order. Pricing for the Balance, Diabetes, and Vegetarian are the same.

If you just order ten meals on any of these plans then the price comes to $121.99 for women or $129.99 for men. So $12.20 per meal.

If you were to order 21 meals, 7 breakfast, 7 lunches, and 7 dinners then the price comes to $179.99 for women or $198.98 for men, so $8.57 and $9.48 per meal.

The Carb30 menu is a little more. It comes to $137.99 for 10 meals and $204.59 for 21 meals on this plan. That’s $13.80 and $9.74 per meal.

Diet-to-Go meals are made fresh in a state-of-the-art kitchen, flash-frozen, packed on dry ice and shipped in large styrofoam coolers. Items that do not require cooling are packaged in a box and shipped with the cooler.

The amount of dry ice used in each package is determined by the climate you live in and the time of year. Some customers receive their meals thawed.

Weekly shipping costs amount to $19.98 for all plans. The service is provided by FedEx, so it’s currently unavailable in Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii.

If you live in the Washington DC Metro area (including Northern Virginia and Suburban Maryland), Baltimore area, New Jersey or the greater Los Angeles area, you can take advantage of their fresh local pickup service.
