Amino Energy Review
Reading Time: 3 minutes
Amino Energy by Optimum Nutrition is a supplement created to aid in muscle recovery. Designed for after a long workout or string of many workouts. It also aims to provide both energy and focus which is impressive for any BCAA supplement. If you are not familiar with what BCAA stands for it is: Branch Chain Amino Acid. In other words it is a certain type of amino acid that has an aliphatic side-chain with three or more carbon atoms and a central carbon atom. [1]

The company Optimum Nutrition is based out of Downers Grove, Illinois.

How Does Amino Energy Work?

First and foremost this is a relatively cheap supplement to purchase at $15.99 for 20 servings, $19.99 for 30 servings, and 65 servings for $37.99. The company suggests that you can take this supplement as a pre-workout, in the morning, or when you need anytime energy due to the caffeine content. If you need the afternoon pick me up you will use 2 scoops in water (no amount specified) and this stays the same pretty for any use you may need.

This product comes in a variety of flavors such as: Blue raspberry, blue lemonade. Grade, fruit fusion, green apple, iced café vanilla, lemon lime, orange, peach, pineapple, strawberry, and many more.

The Bottom Line
There are a variety of flavors to choose from and a variety of sizes to purchase. The serving size is typically 2 scoops.

Is Amino Energy Safe?

This product is safe but it does contain a lot of ingredients! Take a look below:

Ingredients
Taurine, Gluatamine, L-Arginine, L-Leucine, Beta-Alanine, Citrulline, L-Isoleucine, L-Histidine, L-lysine HCI, L-Phenylalanine, L-threonine, L-Methionine, Green tea, Green tea extract, and Green coffee extract.

Taurine is found in many energy drinks and can have potential side effects such as jitters and headaches. So while the product is safe, it has a lot of caffeine in it so be careful if you take it in the late afternoon.

The Bottom Line
This product is not dangerous to your health when taken the correct way, however be mindful it is full of caffeine.

Pros and Cons of Amino Energy

When looking into the reviews from other people who have used it, some did not notice a difference in their workouts from Amino Energy. Some of these people may have a higher tolerance to caffeine than others so it affects everyone differently. This can be a con for sure. A pro would be the different flavors to choose from as there are a lot, and the price because it is an affordable BCAA supplement to take. There were also no terribly harsh side effects noted, so this is another pro. Another con is the taste, some of the flavors were said to not taste good at all, so it is good they have a variety of flavors to choose from.  Overall, the product has been said to both help, and not help when talking about a workout boost. [3]

The Bottom Line
There are an equal amount of pros and cons, some of them being taste and performance and others being the price.

Conclusion

The Amino Energy supplement from Optimum Nutrition is okay, not great but not terrible. The price is nice, and the caffeine boost (for some people) is nice during the day but some people truly did not notice a difference. There was also talk about the flavors tasting poorly. While it is a nice touch from the company to offer this BCAA it almost seems unnecessary if you have a high caffeine tolerance. Others may disagree, and it has helped boost their workouts so overall this is a pretty neutral product.
